The Royal Couple and 800 patients

When Jamboree26 brought together 18,000 scouts from 44 countries, MedicSolution’s ultramobile MS MAX24 unit served as the camp’s healthcare centre. The unit attracted considerable interest throughout the week, not least during the King and Queen’s visit, where discussions focused on how MAX24 was used in practice during the camp and its potential to contribute to healthcare and emergency preparedness around the world.

For Stefan Hansson, the physician responsible for medical care during Jamboree26, MAX24 changed the conditions for providing healthcare on site.

– It was like night and day compared with previous solutions.

Healthcare in the heart of one of Sweden’s largest youth events
A week filled with activities, community and adventure placed high demands on well-functioning healthcare services. With thousands of participants gathered in the same place, the healthcare team needed to be able to handle both minor injuries and situations requiring rapid medical assessment. To meet this need on site, MedicSolution sponsored the event with MAX24, an ultramobile healthcare unit that became the hub of the camp’s healthcare operations.

During the week, the team treated around 800 patients. Most visits concerned issues such as wounds, allergic reactions and infections, but there were also more acute and complex medical conditions requiring treatment on site. For Stefan, the assignment was about ensuring accessible healthcare for the camp’s participants together with the team.

– We handled the same types of cases as at a regular primary care centre, but also situations that required immediate medical assessment. In those situations, it is crucial to be able to work in an environment that supports the operation and creates a sense of security. MAX24 gave us the conditions to provide care in a way that had not previously been possible at this type of event.

From tents and temporary buildings to a real healthcare environment
At previous scout camps, healthcare has often been provided in tents or simpler temporary buildings. The way healthcare was delivered during Jamboree26 was largely the same, but the conditions were completely different.

With MAX24, moisture, dust and temporary facilities were replaced by a healthcare environment adapted for medical care, with work surfaces, lighting and workflows resembling those of conventional healthcare.

– Many patients experienced the environment as professional and safe, which immediately created trust. At the same time, the staff could focus on providing care from the very beginning.

Better conditions for both patients and staff
MAX24 gave the healthcare team a better overview of operations and made it easier to work efficiently, even during periods of high patient volumes.

– I could quickly get an overview of the patient flow and what was happening in the operation. That created a sense of security for the entire team.

For Stefan, the major difference became clear in the interaction with both patients and healthcare staff.

– Patients were met by a professional healthcare environment, while the staff could focus on providing care rather than on the practical conditions. This created clear added value for everyone involved.

For Kenneth Helgesson, CTO at MedicSolution, Jamboree26 was also an important confirmation of how MAX24 performs in practice.

– It was fantastic to see MAX24 in this environment. With a high volume of patients, we saw that MAX24 could deliver and that it worked well for the healthcare staff to work in. We have previously conducted full-scale exercises with hospitals, but this was the first time we had the opportunity to use MAX24 in a real operational setting.

MAX24 also attracted royal interest
During the King and Queen’s visit to Jamboree26, MAX24 also attracted attention. The King and Queen were given an insight into how the healthcare unit was used during the camp and heard about the healthcare team’s experiences from the week.
